The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra honored John L. Harrison with its Pinnacle Award during its “By Design” gala, held at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. Harrison, a designer and philanthropist, has dedicated himself to Greater Cincinnati’s arts and civic organizations in the five decades since he arrived here from New Zealand. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the CCO’s innovative educational outreach program, “Footnotes,” for students in grades K-12.

The Visiting Nurse Association is celebrating its must successful Caring Award gala ever. Attendance topped 550 and more than $260,000 was raised for the VNA’s Charity Care Program, which provides home health care and personal care services regardless of ability to pay. The Caring Award was presented to the family of Bob and Susie Castellini. Karrie and Chip Crowther were the co-chairs, with Dulany and Rob Anning chairing the host and hostess committee and Melissa Lueke chairing the sponsorship committee.

More than 600 people grabbed their dancing shoes for SPCA Cincinnati’s Fur Ball. Proceeds support SPCA’s mission of turning no animal away. Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive officer of The Humane Society of the United States, was the keynote speaker. Local 12 anchor John Lomax was honored with the P.B. Johnston Humane Care Award for his dedication to animal welfare and raising awareness in the community about animals. Guests were greeted by residents of SPCA Cincinnati’s 24-acre farm north of Miamitown. A live auction helped raise funds for a new horse trailer for the farm.

A perfect “10” from all four judges proved impossible to beat in the Cincinnati Arts Association’s Dancing for the Stars competition. Dr. Tracey Skale, chief medical officer for Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Service and her dance pro partner J. Patrick Clements of Dare to Dance, captured first place with their foxtrot. Patty Brisben CEO and founder of Pure Romance and The Patty Brisben Foundation, and dance pro Brian McNamee of Cincinnati Ballroom Company took second place; and Sean Parker, manager, Ohio government and community relations for Procter & Gamble, and dance pro Leigh Bradshaw of Cincinnati Ballroom Company) placed third. The Cincinnati Arts Association’s sold-out fundraiser drew a record 650 guests and raised $70,000 for its Overture Awards and Academy, the nation’s largest locally run high school arts scholarship competition.
