The Contemporary Arts Center promised a “pulsating, urban street party” and it delivered – packing the “Backstage District” alley behind the CAC with partiers, as artist-turned-DJ Shepard Fairey spun the platters. Fairey, whose exhibit “Supply and Demand,” runs through Aug. 22, shared the artistic stage with two opening night artists, Ernesto Neto (“Dancing Allowed,” through Oct. 31) and Pat Steir (“Water & Stone,” through Aug. 22). Dubbed “The Event,” the party began with a reception and dinner inside for members, then moved outside. Photos by Grand Lubell (reception) and Thadd Fiala (street party).

Landor Associates, a brand consulting and design firm housed in what was once home to Shillito’s department store, is paying homage to Anne Wainscott with an exhibit of her work and a fashion installation in its windows. Wainscott, a highly regarded and prolific fashion expressionist, created thousands of drawings and paintings working for Shillito’s and the Cincinnati Enquirer in the days before before photography eclipsed illustrations. The exhibition, ‘Inspired by Anne,” is inside Landor’s lobby and as a fashion installation in the windows that grace Race Street through the end of July.
